Remains of missing boater recovered at Weyakwin Lake

On May 12, Waskesiu RCMP received a call from Lloydminster Rescue Squad, reporting they had recovered a body at Weyakwin Lake as part of a search they were conducting.

On May 12, Waskesiu RCMP received a call from Lloydminster Rescue Squad, reporting they had recovered a body at Weyakwin Lake as part of a search they were conducting.

The remains have been confirmed via autopsy conducted by the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, to be Matthew Hamm of Hague. Matthew was reported missing on Sept. 23, 2020. His family reported he had been out fishing on Weyakwin Lake, but failed to return.

Waskesiu RCMP would like to thank the many partners who assisted in the search for Matthew since September, including the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Search and Rescue and Underwater Recovery Team, Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, La Ronge Canadian Rangers, Government of Saskatchewan Conservation Officers, Hutterite Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART), Lloydminister Rescue Squad and the Saskatchewan Coroners Service, among others.
