A man facing second-degree murder and other charges was back before North Battleford provincial court Thursday, and the latest news is that he has finally secured legal counsel.

Michael Jordan White, also known as Michael Jordan Frank, appeared by video before Judge Murray Pelletier. White is charged with the second degree murder of Todd Levi Stone, 38, in North Battleford in May; he also faces three failure to appear counts.

Appearing on White's behalf Thursday was North Battleford Legal Aid lawyer Don MacKinnon acting as agent for Saskatoon lawyer Timothy Nolin. MacKinnon informed the court that Nolin is prepared to act for White in the case.

Legal Aid had looked into representing White but MacKinnon explained it would have posed a conflict for the North Battleford office as well as the Saskatoon Rural office, so Nolin, a private lawyer, has agreed to take the case on.

The case has been adjourned to Oct. 30 at 11 a.m. by closed-circuit TV.
