It took police some effort, but they were eventually successful in arresting a man wanted in connection with break and enter and theft in the Prince Albert area.

Police were told an adult male and an adult female were involved in the incident and a woman was arrested at the scene when Prince Albert RCMP responded at about 7 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 19

Police say the man had fled the area on foot prior to arrival of officers and was believed to be carrying a long-barrelled firearm.

Prince Albert RCMP called for assistance from the Protection and Response Team (PRT) and were assisted by Conservation Officers and SERM Police Dog Services (PDS). SERM PDS arrived on scene a short time later and was joined by two RCMP officers who tracked the man for approximately five kilometres to a vacant rural property approximately 10 kilometers north of the Prince Albert detachment.

According to a release, SERM PDS and RCMP made verbal attempts to get the man to vacate the property, but did not get a response. The Emergency Response Team was engaged and attended the scene. Containment was set up around the property with the assistance of PRT and neighbouring detachment officers from Waskesiu and Smeaton.

Verbal communication was established, after further negotiations with the Emergency Response Team, the man surrendered and was arrested without incident.

The investigation is ongoing.
