A 42-year-old man accused of holding a girl against her will at a remote northern Saskatchewan cabin still hasn’t been released on bail. Aaron Gardiner was arrested in April by the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team, which was flown to the isolated cabin by the Canadian Armed Forces in two CH-146 Griffon helicopters.

A 42-year-old man accused of holding a girl against her will at a remote northern Saskatchewan cabin still hasn’t been released on bail.

Aaron Gardiner was arrested in April by the Saskatchewan RCMP Emergency Response Team, which was flown to the isolated cabin by the Canadian Armed Forces in two CH-146 Griffon helicopters. Gardiner has had numerous show cause hearings since his arrest with the latest being on Sept. 4. He was originally charged with unlawful confinement, overcoming resistance, uttering threats, resisting arrest, possessing a firearm for a dangerous purpose, use of a firearm in commission of an indictable offence, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and proceeds of crime.

After Gardiner’s arrest the RCMP continued to investigate with more victims coming forward. Police added more charges against him in July including four counts of sexual assault, three counts of forcible confinement, uttering threats, assault, reckless discharge of a firearm, use of a firearm in the commission of an offence, obstruction, and breach of an undertaking.

Île-à-la-Crosse has a population of about 1,300 and is located about 380 kilometres north of Prince Albert.

Gardiner’s show cause hearing continues in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on Oct. 13.
