There still isn’t a resolution for two people facing organized crime charges in Prince Albert Court of Queen's Bench.
Jesse Dillon, 28, from Onion Lake Cree Nation, and Shania Yooya, 24, from Sturgeon Lake First Nation were on the pretrial list at Prince Albert Court of Queen’s Bench for a possible resolution Oct. 23 but their matters were adjourned to Nov. 20.
A pretrial conference is where the Crown and defence sit down and discuss whether a case will go to trial or if it can be resolved through a plea bargain.
Dillon and Yooya were arrested earlier this year after the RCMP Crime Reduction Team (CRT) launched an investigation last fall into organized criminal activities in Prince Albert and communities in the surrounding area. Prince Albert RCMP and Prince Albert Integrated Street Enforcement Team and Saskatoon Police Service assisted the RCMP CRT in the investigation.
On Feb. 12, police raided a home on Sturgeon Lake First Nation. They seized a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, a replica handgun, a spear gun and a quantity of suspected opioids.
During the lengthy investigation, police arrested Dillon and Yooya, along with Raini Henderson, 30, from the Nipawin area, and Brennen Sanderson and Shannon Sanderson from the Prince Albert area.
Dillon was charged with recruiting for a criminal organization, trafficking a controlled substance for a criminal organization, uttering threats for a criminal organization, and conspiracy to commit assault for a criminal organization.
Yooya was charged with trafficking a controlled substance for a criminal organization, uttering threats for a criminal organization, and conspiracy to commit assault for a criminal organization.
Henderson was charged with facilitating the activities of a criminal organization.
Brennen Sanderson and Shannon Sanderson were charged with facilitating the activities of a criminal organization, unsafe storage of a firearm, possess weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possess restricted firearm with ammo without license, possess firearm/tampered serial number, possess weapon obtained by crime, and fail to appear in court.
Shannon Sanderson failed to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court in March and a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.
The case against Henderson and the Sandersons are still at the provincial court level.
Henderson is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court Nov. 20 to elect how he wants to be tried.
Brennan Sanderson is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court Nov. 19 on 10 weapons offences in another incident. On the organized crime charges out of Prince Albert, Sanderson is scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court Dec. 3.
