Sturgeon Lake woman remains in custody on weapons charges

A Sturgeon Lake First Nation woman facing numerous weapons offences remains in custody after appearing in Prince Albert Provincial Court Feb. 20.

Shania Yooya, 24, is charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of a firearm with a tampered serial number and possession of a weapon obtained by crime.

Yooya, and co-accused Brennan Sanderson, 27, and Shannon Sanderson, 29, were arrested by the Prince Albert Crime Reduction Team on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation after police raided a home Feb. 12. Police seized a sawed-off shotgun, speargun and suspected hydromorphone, an opioid.

Brennan and Shannon Shannon were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in Prince Albert provincial court March 18.

The matters against Yooya were adjourned to be spoken to on April 14 in Prince Albert provincial court.
