Suspicious death in the RM of Shellbrook being investigated as homicide

On Oct. 15, the Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes Unit North and officers from the Ahtahkakoop RCMP Detachment attended the scene of a suspicious sudden death at a rural property approximately 32 kilometres north of Shellbrook, along Highway 240.

The victim has been identified as 48-year-old Bradley John Schmalz, a resident of the RM of Shellbrook.

Schmalz’s death is being handled as a homicide, which investigators believe to have occurred sometime between Monday, Oct. 12 and Thursday, Oct. 15.

RCMP said an autopsy would be conducted today, Monday, Oct. 19, in Saskatoon to further examine the circumstances surrounding Schmalz’s death.

Officers are encouraging anyone who may have information concerning this investigation, including anyone who may have been in contact with Bradley John Schmalz leading up to Oct. 12 through 15, to contact the Ahtahkakoop RCMP at 306-747-2606. The investigation remains ongoing.
