A trial is set for a man who was the subject of an RCMP public safety warning after he had evaded police for eight months.
The trial for Jonathan Swiftwolfe, 24, is scheduled for May 17 in North Battleford Provincial Court. He is facing 35 charges including several weapons offences, flight from police, assault, uttering threats, dangerous driving, driving while prohibited, mischief, and failing to comply with a probation order.
The charges against Swiftwolfe haven’t been proven in court.
Multiple RCMP detachments worked together Dec. 5 and 6, 2020, to locate and arrest Swiftwolfe who is from Moosomin First Nation.
RCMP and Moosomin First Nation had issued a public safety warning saying Swiftwolfe was armed and dangerous. When describing him police said he has “Westside” tattooed on his face.
RCMP say that when officers activated their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop Swiftwolfe, he refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed. Police say that due to his violent nature they initiated a pursuit.
Officers from the RCMP Crime Reduction Team, which specializes in gang activity, successfully deployed a tire deflation device at the Table Mountain turnoff on Highway 40 east of Sweetgrass First Nation.
When police arrested Swiftwolfe they found a loaded firearm in his vehicle, which was within his reach. Cassandra Fox, 24, was with Swiftwolfe and arrested. At the time she was wanted on warrants for assault with a weapon and failure to comply with a release order.
Moosomin First Nation is about 22 kilometres north of North Battleford. Sweetgrass First Nation is 35 kilometres west of North Battleford.
