Threats to kill made at Frontier Mall North Battleford

On Dec. 29 at 2:40 p.m., Battlefords RCMP responded to a complaint of a male at Frontier Mall threatening to kill someone.

RCMP said the complaint was of an unknown male at the mall threatening to kill someone and then threatening to kill other members of the public present. 

Mall security were able to contain the male to an area inside the mall and converse with him in order to keep the situation from escalating until RCMP members arrived on scene. 

Once members arrived on scene they were prepared with duty pistols drawn and a less lethal use of force option to deal with this incident.

Members engaged in conversation with the unknown male and were able to continue to de-escalate the situation. 

The male complied with the direction of the members and was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act. 

No persons were injured as a result of this incident.

The 48-year-old male has been identified and remains in custody.

Further updates will be provided on this incident pending completion of the criminal investigation. Any persons who were present at the Frontier Mall during this incident who have not yet been spoken to by Battlefords RCMP are requested to contact the detachment at 306-446-1720.
