Turtleford RCMP – Charges laid in suspicious death investigation

On Nov. 1, RCMP Major Crime Unit Investigators arrested a 44-year-old male in relation to a suspicious sudden death which occurred in September 2018 on the Thunderchild First Nation.

On Sept. 15, 2018,Turtleford RCMP received a complaint of an unresponsive male at a residence on the Thunderchild First Nation. Upon arrival at the residence, the members located the victim, 57-year-old Roger Standingwater, in medical distress. EMS personnel arrived shortly afterwards and pronounced  Standingwater deceased.

The Turtleford RCMP contacted additional resources from the RCMP Major Crimes Unit North, North Battleford General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification section to assist.

An autopsy was conducted Sept. 18, 2018, to determine the cause of Standingwater’s death.

Ivor Antoine Wapass (1974-12-26) has been charged with one count of second-degree murder contrary to Section 235 of the Criminal Code. He will make his first court appearance in North Battleford Provincial Court on Monday, Nov. 4 at 9:30 a.m.
