Two teen males recovered deceased from Wollaston Lake

On Sept. 7 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Wollaston Lake RCMP received the report of two male youths, ages 16 and 14 years old, and an 18-year-old male, had taken a canoe from the barge dock and tried to cross Welcome Bay to the T-dock.

On Sept. 7 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Wollaston Lake RCMP received the report of two male youths, ages 16 and 14 years old, and an 18-year-old male, had taken a canoe from the barge dock and tried to cross Welcome Bay to the T-dock.

The canoe flipped during the trip, and all three boys fell into the water as a result. The 14-year-old managed to swim to shore safely. Weather conditions at the time were windy and about 5 degrees Celsius.

Within minutes of the incident being reported, several community members and the Canadian Rangers used several boats to search for the two missing males.

On Sept. 8 at approximately 4 a.m., both males were located deceased. Their next of kin have been notified.

The Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service now has carriage of the investigation.

The RCMP would like to recognize all of the efforts from the community members and the Canadian Rangers for their assistance in the search.
