The North Battleford Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 9016 Abbott Ave. at approximately 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.

On arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flame issuing from the attached garage.

The fire had burned through the roof of the garage and was extending into the main structure of the home. Due to the progression of the fire, fire crews made an aggressive exterior attack on the fire.

There were two engines, one command vehicle and one utility vehicle with 13 firefighters on scene.

The blaze took five hours to extinguish, said Lindsay Holm, fire chief, in a release. Fire crews had to deal with extremely cold temperatures and wind chills during the fire.

SaskPower and SaskEnergy were also on scene to disconnect the power and gas to the structure.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is getting underway.
