Update: Collision near Lone Rock claims one life

Update: Around 7 p.m. Jan. 21, Maidstone RCMP responded to a complaint of a three vehicle collision on Highway 17 south of Lloydminster, near the community of Lone Rock.

Update: Around 7 p.m. Jan. 21, Maidstone RCMP responded to a complaint of a three vehicle collision on Highway 17 south of Lloydminster, near the community of Lone Rock.

Initial investigation has revealed a collision occurred between two southbound vans. A collision then occurred between the first southbound van and a northbound semi tractor-trailer unit.

The driver of the first van, a 64-year-old female from the Wilton area was transported to and passed away in hospital. The drivers of the semi and the second van reported no injuries to police.

An RCMP Collision Reconstruction Unit from Prince Albert continues to investigate this three-vehicle collision with Maidstone RCMP. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. The roadway is now open.

RCMP thank all its partner agencies for their assistance at the scene.

Background: Maidstone RCMP report they are on the scene of a three-vehicle collision on Highway 17 south of Lloydminster SK, at the turnoff to the community of Lone Rock on Highway 688.

Both lanes of Highway 17 are closed near the collision area.

The investigation is ongoing; RCMP say updates will be provided tomorrow morning.
