A look at some of the election results from around the Northwest

Municipal elections were held — and in some cases, not held — throughout the northwest region of Saskatchewan on Monday. While some communities saw active races for mayor and council, a few did not.

Municipal elections were held — and in some cases, not held — throughout the northwest region of Saskatchewan on Monday.

While some communities saw active races for mayor and council, a few did not. One of those communities was Maidstone, which saw Brennan Becotte acclaimed as mayor and all six council candidates elected by acclamation.

Turtleford also did not hold an election with Lawrence Weinrauch acclaimed as mayor and all six council seats also filled by acclamation.

Meota was also quiet on Election Day as Dave Konopelski was acclaimed as mayor and Pat Becotte, Carole Chapman, Teresa Ducharme and Betty Johnson took the four council seats by acclamation.

On the other hand, elections went ahead for mayor and council in Unity. There, Sharon Del Frari was elected Mayor with 335 votes, to 188 for Joseph Moser. In the council race, winners were Brent Weber- 380, Rick Hill- 359, Curtis McLean- 359, Bob Abel - 329, ,Doreen Bonogofski- 307, and Ryan Sernecky- 288.

Outgoing mayor Ben Weber ran for council but fell 10 votes short, at 278. Jackson Winterhalt got 231 votes, Janet Hollingshead received 183 and Erik Hansen 157.

In Wilkie, David Ziegler won a contested race for mayor easily with 264 votes to 71 for Stephen Hall. Winners for council were Lucas Jaindl - 308, Les Henderson - 285, Del Bannerman - 273, Clarke Jackson - 231, Alex Majewski - 201 and Helen Urlacher -176. Losing out were Joseph Stewart Nicholson with 151 and Mary Ellen Herzog with 138.

There were also full elections for mayor and council in Cut Knife, where Gwenn Kaye defeated Daryl Sperling in the mayor’s race with 122 votes to 61.

In St. Walburg, elections also went ahead for both mayor and council. Nancy Schneider was elected mayor over Jamie Hallett in a landslide, with 237 votes to 31. The six council winners are Stuart Gammell, Clinton Parker, Kim Gardner, Dawn McKellar, Virginia Mowery and Jean Steinacher.

In Edam, only the council race went to a vote, as Larry McDaid was declared the winner for mayor by acclamation.

Jamie Brandrick was already acclaimed as mayor in Borden but the election went on for council, with Kandice Walker, Peter Thiessen, Tom Redhead and Beverly Hrynuik all winning.

Things were mainly quiet in the RM of North Battleford election on Monday. Reeve Daniel Bartko and councillors Robert Hujdic and Ryan Shepherd were all acclaimed. In the only race that went to a vote, it was Todd Winterhalt winning over Alison Bailey in division 3.
