Battle River Treaty 6 Health Centre is reporting it is receiving its first shipments of COVID-19 vaccines this week.

The shipment of Pfizer vaccine was due to arrive the week of Jan. 20 and clinics were to be set up Jan. 21 and 22 to administer the vaccines for the First Nation communities of Little Pine, Poundmaker, Moosomin, Sweetgrass and Lucky Man.

The vaccines will be administered to those most at risk, starting with elders age 70 and over. This will be for the first dose of the vaccine; people will be notified on when they will receive the second dose.

As availability increases for the vaccines, age groups and at-risk population will be expanded. Those who have had COVID-19 in the previous 90 days are asked to hold off on getting the vaccine for now.

Nursing staff were to contact community members to make appointments and assessments prior to coming to the clinic. Call your community clinic and press 9 to reach BRT6HC Health Line for more information.
