Lighting problems with the outdoor skating rink in the Battle Springs area of Battleford will have to wait to next year to be addressed.

At their meeting Monday, the town received correspondence from a resident inquiring about getting a second light added at the rink, mainly to address the shadows that cover a portion of the rink during the evening hours.

The point was made in the correspondence that the light could be installed in conjunction with a project being done to put up lights on a nearby pathway, at only a minor cost.

But the town’s chief administrative officer John Enns-Wind said he communicated to the letter-writer that it wasn’t feasible for this year.

He noted the rink is on the east side, but the path lighting being done is on the west side of 2nd Avenue. Enns-Wind said when they do the east side they could look at adding the light to the rink at that point.

The indication from council is that this will be a priority next budget cycle.

“We’ll definitely get the rink light up for next year,” said mayor Ames Leslie to reporters following the meeting.
