December numbers are in, and they put a cap on what was a very down year for building permits in the city of North Battleford.

For 2019 there was a grand total of 86 building permits issued in North Battleford for $10,995,300, down substantially from 131 permits issued for $26,891,100 in 2018.

Driving the downward spiral was a big decline in the category of new commercial builds. There were seven permits for new commercial builds in 2018 for a permit value of $17,508,550. But in 2019, that category recorded zero.

There was also a big decline in commercial alterations, down from 32 permits for $4.85 million to 17 permits for $1.26 million. Institutional alterations were up substantially, however, to five permits for $5,295,600. That is up from four for $246,500

For December 2019, there was a steep decline: four permits were issued for $53,000, compared to eight permits for $1,589,000 in 2018.

“Hopefully we can see a stronger year in North Battleford in 2020,” was the reaction of Councillor Kelli Hawtin, who chaired Monday’s council meeting.
