As expected North Battleford council has granted its approval to a request from the town of Battleford for use of their wastewater dumping facility.

The request was made to dispose of effluent from Decibel Cannabis Company Inc. formally called Westleaf Inc, whose are located in Battleford.

The town passed a resolution at their last meeting allowing the company to be able to use the North Battleford facility; this is seen as a temporary situation until the Town completes its lagoon facility upgrade project. The disposal in North Battleford would run until no later than Nov. 1 of this year under the resolution approved Tuesday.

Whether or not the effluent will actually be dumped at the North Battleford facility depends on some other factors. There was considerable discussion on whether North Battleford’s own facility was able to handle the effluent, as it was noted the effluent was “too strong” for Battleford’s own facilities.

The indication from director of operations Stewart Schafer is the effluent would be sent off to the Saskatchewan Research Council or another accredited agency to be tested.

City manager Randy Patrick indicated that regardless of whether council approved the request or not, “it still must pass the testing” in order to be allowed at their own wastewater facility.
