Diabetes Canada is asking the public to hold off on donations at their donation bins, as dumping of items becomes a serious issue for the organization at its dropoff points.

The organization has penned an open letter to community leaders and elected officials. Diabetes Canada reports the pickup of items at their dropoff bins stopped on March 23, in compliance with social distancing and other orders stopping non-essential services.

But the dumping of items has not stopped. The organization reports that donation bins are overflowing as they have become a dumping ground for well-meaning citizens looking to support the organization. There are also reports of garbage being dumped.

The organization is urging the public to hold off on donations until business resumes.
