One of two individuals charged with the first-degree murder of Mark Jonson in North Battleford has been committed to stand trial in Queen's Bench court.

David Keller had been scheduled for a preliminary hearing this week on the first-degree murder charge, but on the March 24 court date Keller was committed to stand trial in Queen's Bench court, with trial by judge and jury.

That means Keller's matters go straight to Queen's Bench with no preliminary hearing. Dates for a trial are not yet known.

This news comes as the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted proceedings at courts across Saskatchewan, including provincial courts, Queen's Bench and the Court of Appeal. There have been numerous postponements and adjournments of cases throughout the court system.

Keller is one of two people charged with the murder of Jonson in July of 2019. Co-accused Nicolas Buck had previously been scheduled for a preliminary hearing running April 28 to May 8.
