Living Sky School Division has sent out correspondence to parents throughout the division informing them that in-class learning for kindergarten to grade 12 students will not resume for the remainder of this school year.

The letter, from board chair Ronna Pethick, follows the announcement last week by education minister Gord Wyant that classes would not resume until the fall.

The correspondence reads as follows:

"On the advice of Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer, the Education Response Planning Team has informed Saskatchewan’s school divisions that in-class learning for K-12 students will not resume for the remainder of the school year.

"As learning will continue remotely at this time, we encourage students and families to take advantage of the supplemental learning opportunities being provided in ways that work best for your situation. It’s not too late for students to join in on supplemental learning. If you are interested, please reach out to your school principal. I encourage you to check out the Keep On Learning section of www.lskysd.ca for some fun activities to keep your family engaged in learning.

"Living Sky School Division wants to highlight and recognize that learning can take place everywhere! For this reason, we are introducing a series of badges to be awarded for learning that students are doing at home. Check out the attached Learn from Home Badges document for more information.

"On behalf of the Board of Education, I would like to thank parents/caregivers and students for their resilience, patience and understanding during these difficult times. I’d also like to thank school staffs for working hard to ensure students are able to stay connected and continue learning and our school division’s senior leadership team for their leadership and continued guidance and positivity. I am so proud of our strength and unity as a school division.

"It is important that we continue to work together, while being apart, to reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Continue to protect yourself and others by staying home as much as possible, practicing good hygiene and physical distancing when taking walks, shopping, etc. By doing your part, you are helping the world heal.

"As we focus on closing out this year in June, we are also beginning to plan for next year. Our division is working with education and health officials to begin to address how we can deliver education next school year. While we cannot yet say what next year will look like, we promise to share details with you as they become available.

"We are in this together."
