The deal has been done for a while, but on Wednesday afternoon officials with Living Sky School Division and the Canadian Union of Public Employees finally signed a new collective bargaining agreement.

The new three-year deal runs from Sept. 1 of this year to Aug. 31, 2022. According to Brenda Cubbon, president of Local 4747, the agreement includes some language changes as well as modest pay increases of two per cent in the first year, one per cent in the second and zero in the third.

The agreement had been negotiated in May between CUPE Local 4747 and the school division. Cubbon was the bargaining chair for CUPE in the negotiations while board member Ron Kowalchuk was bargaining chair for the school division.

The deal covers roughly 400 employees in the school division including educational assistants, caretakers, secretaries and bus drivers.

“We have a great board to work with,” Cubbon said. “I’ve been in negotiations a number of years, and this was one of the toughest, but we still walked out with a positive attitude with the board members.”
