The newly-elected mayor of North Battleford and the new council will be sworn in this evening at a ceremonial first council meeting.

The swearing-in of David Gillan as the new Mayor as well as the six council members will happen at Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts. Two new councillors, Bill Ironstand and Ross MacAngus, will be among the councillors sworn in.

The Dekker Centre venue is large enough to accommodate more people than City Hall and can also handle social distancing requirements. But attendance is still restricted due to gathering size requirements, so the meeting will be streamed for the public on the ZOOM platform. Details on how to log in can be found at the city’s website at www.cityofnb.ca.

The meeting takes place at 6 p.m. this evening. It is the first official meeting of the new term, but the swearing-in ceremonies are the lone item on the agenda tonight. The new council will get down to actual business at their next meeting Nov. 23.

The Town of Battleford is also planning to swear in its new council tonight at their meeting at Town Hall, which will also be streamed virtually on Microsoft Teams.
