The city of North Battleford have announced that they have put up two new speed signs on Territorial Drive.

The signs are funded by the Saskatchewan Government Insurance Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant Program. The signs have been installed at points at Territorial Drive where the speed limit reduces from 80 km/h to 50 km/h.

One faces eastbound traffic approaching 95th St. while the other faces westbound traffic approaching Clements Dr.

The signs will display the driver’s speed and flash a white light to alert the driver if they are exceeding the speed limit. The city emphasizes these are not speed traps and they do not issue tickets. Three more signs are planned at Hwy 4 northbound approaching Territorial Dr.-South Railway Ave., Hwy 4 southbound approaching Territorial Dr.-100th St., and Territorial Dr. southbound approaching Airport Road - 8th Ave.

“Many motorists travelling into these reduced speed zones don’t realize that they are driving faster than the posted speed limit. The new signs will remind motorists they are entering a lower speed limit zone, and alerting them to reduce their speed,” said Stewart Schafer, Director of City Operations.

"We thank SGI's Provincial Traffic Safety Fund Grant Program for their financial assistance. Without their help, the purchase and installation of the signs for this year would not have happened," said Schafer.
