The city of North Battleford is all set to go for its first all-electronic council meeting Tuesday night.

The meeting will be held via Zoom webinar, with participants able to join starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Those interested can find more information by going to the city’s website at www.cityofnb.ca and going to the city government tab under “Council Meetings.”

This would be the first public council meeting since the state of emergency was declared in Saskatchewan of the COVID-19 pandemic. The last public meeting of council took place March 9, but their regular meeting scheduled for March 23 was cancelled. On March 27, a special council meeting was held electronically dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, but that took place in-camera and was closed to the public.

The April 14 meeting in North Battleford would be their first public council meeting held using the Zoom teleconferencing platform. The Zoom platform has gained plenty of attention during the pandemic, and has been used for meetings by several other city councils across Canada and North America.

Other area councils have also been switching to holding meetings electronically. The town of Battleford held their council meeting electronically for the first time on April 6 using the Microsoft Teams technology.

As well, the resort village of Cochin has announced it is holding their next council meeting electronically and that is scheduled for April 14.
