It was a busy week on Saskatchewan’s highways.  Members of RCMP Detachments and Combined Traffic Safety Services (CTSS) were out on the roadways of Saskatchewan looking for the big four traffic offences - aggressive driving, seatbelt use, distracted driving, and excessive speeds.

Even with winter driving conditions and reduced visibility due to fog or snow, there were still several vehicles travelling in a dangerous manner. Some of the more notable vehicle stops were:

In Waskesiu, a vehicle was stopped driving 151 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 2 near Montreal Lake. The driver stated they were late to pick up a family member, fined $809.

On Highway 5 near Peterson, a truck was stopped travelling 154 km/h. The truck was also not registered and had window tinting on the front side windows. The driver was issued $1,423 in fines as result.

In Wadena, a driver was stopped after driving over sidewalk curbs at 3 a.m., arrested for impaired driving.

Members from the Craik RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling on Highway 11 at 157 km/h. After investigation, the driver was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

During a traffic stop in Saskatoon, a driver gave a false name and admitted to possessing drugs in the vehicle. A subsequent vehicle search resulted in the seizure of controlled substances and weapons. The driver was charged with Possession Schedule I (x2), Resists/Obstructs Peace Officer, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, Drive without Valid Driver’s License, Operate Motor Vehicle without Certificate of Registration, and weapons-related Criminal Code charges (x4)
