The mother of a missing woman has announced on her Facebook page that her daughter has passed away and is planning a celebration of life for her, however, RCMP continue to investigate the disappearance and have no information that she is deceased.

Monday, May 20, Carol Laverdiere of Edmonton posted on her Facebook page, “Dear family & friends, it is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of our beloved daughter, sister and mother, Tiki Brook-Lyn Shirley Laverdiere. I apologize for posting it this way but I wanted to make sure everyone knows before it gets out otherwise.”

She has now posted plans for a celebration of life.

Meanwhile, RCMP in the Battlefords continue to search for Tiki Laverdiere, and today said they are still following up on leads.

Carol Laverdiere told the News-Optimist this morning she has no comment about the matter.

Battlefords RCMP, with the assistance of the RCMP Major Crime Unit North, continue to investigate the disappearance of Laverdiere.

She had been in the North Battleford and Thunderchild First Nation areas to attend a funeral on April 27, and after the funeral she expressed a desire to return to Edmonton, Alta. She was last seen in North Battleford on May 1. The last contact she had with family was via text message, also on May 1.

Investigators have been working to determine if she left the North Battleford area, as she did not have a known mode of transportation or the means to leave. Investigators are concerned that she may have attempted to hitchhike back to Alberta.

Police are looking for the public's assistance in locating Tiki Laverdiere and are asking anyone that may have come in contact with her since April 29 or may have seen a woman walking along Highway 16 to contact police or CrimeStoppers.

Tiki is described as being 5'4" tall and approximately 140 pounds. She has burgundy hair and typically wears grey contact lenses. She has small tattoos on her neck and eyebrow and nose piercings. At the time of her disappearance, she may have been carrying a Louis Vuitton handbag and had been seen wearing bright white shoes and a black jacket/pants with unique red and white stripes. She walks with a slight impediment.
