The City of North Battleford is entering into a new occupancy agreement with the RCMP.

The RCMP has had an agreement with the City for their detachment building since 2003. It is now being renewed for another 10 years.

According to the terms of the deal presented to council Tuesday by acting Finance Director Margarita Pena, the main items include capital cost recovery over the remaining 10 years, an occupancy lease to be negotiated at the end of the amortization period and an operating and maintenance rate.

The agreement would run until March 31, 2028. That is also when the amortization period ends so the building will be paid for.

In the event the municipal policing contract with the RCMP is cancelled, there is also a clause that would allow termination of the agreement on March 31 of any given year without penalty by providing no less than 24 months advance written notice to the other party.

Council voted unanimously to approve for execution the occupancy agreement at their Tuesday meeting.
