Ryan Bater has declared he is officially in the mayor's race in North Battleford in 2020.

The mayor announced he is seeking a second term in a news release Thursday. In a statement, Bater pointed to progress made at City Hall during his past term.

“We have strengthened the City’s finances, service delivery, and our regional relationships over the past few years,” said Bater.

“My candidacy is based on continuing that momentum and providing stability and vision through the effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic.”

In his statement Bater pointed to accomplishments such as signing of the Sacichawasihc Relationship Agreement, Revitalization of Downtown North Battleford, adoption of their Asset Management Plan, replacement of infrastructure through the UPAR Program, and economic development in Yellow Sky Neighbourhood.

"We accomplished all of this at the same time as we got our operational expenses in order, made major reductions to long-term debt, and elevated service delivery practices for our residents.”

“However, we are in the middle of the biggest health and economic challenge of our generation, and my priority will be on ensuring the sustainability of City services with minimal impact to property taxes and getting our economy back on track.”

“There are also a number of major projects to see through, including the twinning of our Trunk Main, the Feasibility Study on incorporating renewable energy into our civic facilities, the annexation of the former Saskatchewan Hospital Grounds, the implementation of recommendations in the Battlefords Recreation Master Plan, and continued efforts focused on crime reduction.”

Bater is a professional economic developer who works as executive director of Destination Battlefords. He has been on council since 2012 when he was first elected as city councillor.

In the 2016 election, Bater was elected mayor unopposed. The mayor's race in North Battleford has been won by acclamation in the past two municipal elections. The election is Nov. 9.
