Among the multitude of events grounded by the COVID-19 pandemic has been the “dig safe” safety breakfasts put on by the Saskatchewan Common Ground Alliance.

These are the breakfast events held annually during the spring throughout the province. At the event a video is shown promoting “dial before you dig”, “look up and live,” and other safety messages for contractors and workers prior to the busy construction season. The Gold Eagle Casino Events Centre has hosted the North Battleford event in recent years.

But with the pandemic raging on and the casino still closed to the public, it is now confirmed the organization has to make alternative plans for 2021.

In correspondence to North Battleford City Hall, the Common Ground Alliance confirms the safety breakfasts are once again not happening in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. However, the organization will be presenting a safety video online and there will be a chance for frontline workers to win a free meal when the video is watched.

The organization plans to release more details soon when they become available.

As for council, they spent some time at Monday’s meeting discussing a request by the Sask. Common Ground Alliance to join their organization for $500 and join Sask 1st Call. The city will do some more research into that request.
