During this past school year, North Battleford student Brandon Nord has been looking toward Rollins College in Orlando, Florida. He has now found out he has won a scholarship from Rollins valued at $20,000 USD per year over four years. He plans to obtain a bachelor’s degree in biology.

But, that isn’t the only reason Brandon is going to Rollins College. Brandon is a Grade 12 student at John Paul II Collegiate, and formerly attended Holy Family School after moving from Roblin, Man., to Saskatoon, and then to the Battlefords. Brandon has been swimming competitively since he was nine years old and he is attending Rollins College to continue his training and development.

He is a current member of the Orcas Swim Team. Brandon’s focus events are the butterfly and the breast stroke, for which he has placed well in multiple competitions. He recently finished in the top 15 at Western Canadian Championships and competed for Team Saskatchewan at the 2017 Canada Games.

He has consistently qualified for the Canadian National Junior Championship Competition over the past several years.

In addition to his studies and swim training, Brandon is hoping to become a paleontologist.
