Battleford town council approved a 10 per cent discount on remaining lots in Battle Springs on Monday.

The discount will remain in place until Sept. 30.

The economy, Mayor Ames Leslie said, is largely responsible for the discount.

“The amount of houses that are on the market are tremendous, so a lot of people are buying homes instead of building,” Leslie said.

One lot sold in 2017, and zero sold in 2018, Leslie said.

There is “no true cost” for the lots remaining unsold, Leslie said, “but we don’t want them sitting there any longer than they have to.”

The discount, Leslie said, is also “to combat what the city has done.” The City of North Battleford has offered 15 per cent discounts in some neighbourhoods.

“This is just enough to dangle the carrot so that we don’t lose any potential investors,” Leslie said.
