After months of being closed to the public due to COVID-19, Battleford Town Hall is finally open again to the public.

On Monday, town council was informed by Director of Finance David Gillan that Town Hall would be back open as of Wednesday of this week.

There had been some renovations done recently to accommodate physical distancing and other restrictions still in place. Gillan noted that a screen has been put in place between reception and the public. Some more plastic barriers are still to be put up but most of the main renovations are done.

Remaining closed to the public are the other facilities, such as the water treatment plant and fire hall.

On a related note, the town will continue to allow credit card payments over the phone for bill payments for the rest of the year. This is being done to accommodate members of the public who might still be nervous to attend Town Hall to pay in person.

There is an additional cost involved for the town in allowing credit card payments, but the rationale from council was to allow residents to have some choices given the COVID-19 situation.

In the end, council voted to continue authorizing credit cards as a payment option through the end of 2020, and for the use of credit cards to be discussed as part of 2021 deliberations.
