The COVID-19 pandemic isn’t going to stop the Western Development Museum from going ahead with Light Up the Village 2020.

The event is going ahead again this holiday season, with organizers looking to increase the number of lighted displays.

Light Up the Village was created in 2017 as a way for the WDM to offer an affordable winter event accessible to all individuals and families. According to the WDM’s promotional material, decorating begins in early Octoner and by December “the outdoor village is turned into a winter wonderland of lighted displays. From Dec. 1, 2020 to Jan. 9, 2021 the gates open to the general public for driving tours. Last year, we were able to utilize the success of two previous years and increase the number of decorated buildings, trees and sculptures.”

The goal from this year’s event is to raise $5,000 to assist with repairs on their buildings in Heritage Village.

There will be expanded hours of operation from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. each day. The cost per vehicle is going up to $10 and season passes are $30 each.

Sponsorship opportunities are available in amounts of $500, $1000, $2500 and $5000. In addition, they can customize sponsorship based on your particular budget.

Those interested can call Shirley Maze, Light Up the Village Co-ordinator, at 306-445-8033 to sponsor or if you would like to discuss other ways to get involved.
