Man charged in connection to drug bust where officer shot still seeking bail

A man charged with drug and firearms related offences in connection to a major drug bust where an RCMP officer was shot is still trying to get bail. Mitch Hutchinson, 49, had show cause hearings in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 16 and June 12.

A man charged with drug and firearms related offences in connection to a major drug bust where an RCMP officer was shot is still trying to get bail. 

Mitch Hutchinson, 49, had show cause hearings in Saskatoon Provincial Court on June 16 and June 12. He also had three show cause hearings scheduled in May but remains in custody. 

Hutchinson was arrested May 15 after the RCMP raided a rural home in the R.M. of Glenside 27 kilometres north of Biggar.

One of the officers was shot when the Saskatchewan RCMP Federal Serious and Organized Crime Unit went to execute the search warrant just before midnight on the night of May 14. Police say the officer had non life-threatening injuries. No RCMP officers fired back during the incident.

Hutchinson is also charged with numerous drug-related offences.

During their search at the rural property, police seized methamphetamine, fentanyl, GHB, Xanax pills and LSD. They seized weapons including a semi-automatic rifle, a shotgun, a sawed-off double-barrel shotgun, a spent anti-tank weapons, a revolver and body armour. They also found $16,080 in Canadian currency, money counters, packaging for drugs, eight cell phones, computers and tablets. 

The rural house that was raided by police is owned by Hutchinson’s co-accused Kurt Miller. Miller was arrested by Regina Police during a traffic stop in Regina on May 14. Miller was charged with trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine. He was also charged with possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public and breach of probation. 

Miller was released on bail June 2 and he is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon Provincial Court June 18 to speak to his matters.
