More delays in case against Thunderchild First Nation man charged with murder

The case against a Thunderchild First Nation man facing murder charges was adjourned again without a trial date being set. Ivor Antoine Wapass, 46, had an appearance scheduled in Battleford’s Court of Queen’s Bench June 26 to set a trial date.

The case against a Thunderchild First Nation man facing murder charges was adjourned again without a trial date being set.

Ivor Antoine Wapass, 46, had an appearance scheduled in Battleford’s Court of Queen’s Bench June 26 to set a trial date.

Wapass has been in custody at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre since his arrest Nov. 1, 2019, by RCMP Major Crimes Unit. He is charged with second-degree murder in connection to the Sept. 15, 2018, death of Roger Standingwater.

According to Turtleford RCMP, police found Standingwater in medical distress at a home on Thunderchild First Nation. EMS pronounced him deceased at the scene. 

North Battleford General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section assisted Turtleford RCMP with the investigation. 

Wapass’ pre-trial hearing was adjourned to Aug. 7 in Battlefords Court of Queen’s Bench.
