Joanne Lewchuk (centre left) and Sylvia Duhaime (centre) present the Battlefords Mental Health Centre with money raised from the Cody Duhaime Memorial Walk for Suicide Awareness held in Meota on Sept. 10. Also pictured left to right is Claudette McGuire, Johann Engelke and Lori Navarro. The walk was in memory of Cody Duhaime, who committed suicide in September of 2015, and Robert Duhaime, who committed suicide in late August. A sum of $15,150 was raised in memory of Cody while $1,350 was raised in memory of Robert. A total of $16,500 was raised. Lewchuk said a goal of the walk is to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental illness, and that she expects the walk to be an annual event. Sylvia Duhaime said she’d like to thank sponsors, pledgers and everyone who came out to walk. Engelke said patients and staff of the Battlefords Mental Health Centre would be surveyed to determine how to best spend the money.
