NW students earn apprenticeship awards

Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship Industry Scholarships have been awarded to 100 graduating high school students in 72 communities across the province this year, including several from the Northwest.

Saskatchewan Youth Apprenticeship Industry Scholarships have been awarded to 100 graduating high school students in 72 communities across the province this year, including several from the Northwest.

Area students earning awards are: Zackery Weber, Denholm, North Battleford Comprehensive School, welder; Andrew Seipp, Edam, H. Hardcastle School, motor vehicle repairer/automotive service technician; Parker Getzinger, Lashburn High School, heavy duty equipment technician/agricultural equipment technician; Justin Menssa, Meota, John Paul II Collegiate, automotive service technician; Garrett Reddekopp, Spiritwood High School, automotive service technician; Matthew Feist, St. Walburg School, welder; Austin Senger, Unity Composite High School, automotive service technician; Nicholas Gutting, Wilkie, McLurg High School, industrial mechanic

The $1,000 scholarships are awarded to students who have completed the SYA Program, a program overseen by the Saskatchewan Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission that exposes students to opportunities in the skilled trades.

“On behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan, congratulations to the SYA Industry Scholarship winners,” Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said. 

“I wish all of you success in your future endeavours. Thank you, also, to the industry sponsors who have invested in our province’s young people through this scholarship program.  You are encouraging youth to consider rewarding careers in the skilled trades.”
