Richardson is ready to be that public servant and representative of her school division, she said, as a parent, grandmother, and educator, Richardson feels these are assets she would like to bring to the board.

While teachers may be teaching 10 months out of the year, the rest of it is spent preparing for new ways of teaching and finding new resources to bring to their classrooms, Richardson said.

A lot of the products and services they need are not readily available to them, she said, and the school division needs to help teachers get those resources. Class sizes and open communication are also important things Richardson wants to work on as a subdivision four trustee, she said.

“Young people need to have that one on one approach. Families have to be able to communicate their requests and their needs to people that represent them. I hope to be able to do this and to represent the people so they know that they can rely on me.”

Richardson would normally be teaching adult education at the Northland College and the Gabriel Dumont Institute, she said, but with the pandemic, she will not be teaching this year and can dedicate her time to the school division.
