Two new doctors welcomed

The Maidstone Hospital Auxiliary hosted a meet and greet afternoon Sept. 7 for two new physicians who have recently joined the Maidstone Medical Clinic.

Dr. Khatereh Mojtahedi and Dr. Virgil Emile Dato were welcomed to the area by a number of community members who attended the event at the Seniors' Drop In Centre.

Bonnie O'Grady, chairperson of Prairie North Health Regional Health Authority expressed her pleasure at having these doctors become a vital part of the Maidstone health system. She gave an informative summary of their education and training, work experience, their volunteer work, the honours and awards received, and some of their hobbies and interests.

Dr. Khatereh Mojtahedi obtained her medical doctor degree from the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in Iran. Prior to coming to Canada she has had a wide range of experience in emergency, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and public health inspection. She spent some time working at Fort McMurray, Alta.

Dr. Virgil Emile Dato is a doctor of medicine graduate of the Far Eastern University Philippines. He also has a Bachelor of Science major in pharmacy. He worked as a clinical research co-ordinator with Dr. A. Nayar in Saskatoon from 2009-13. In 2012 he received an international medical graduate scholarship from the College of Medicine, University of Saskatchewan. His hobbies include sports. He is an avid tennis player and an outdoors enthusiast.

Connie McCulloch, mayor of Maidstone gave greetings and outlined several of the facilities and businesses in the town. Marg McLaren, hospital auxiliary president brought a welcome from the RM of Eldon.

The community was also able to meet Dr. Mojtahedi's husband, her two daughters, aged five and one, her mother, also a physician in Iran, and her mother-in-law and father-in-law.
