Wage increase negotiated in CUPE deal with NWSD

Members of CUPE 4797 have ratified a new collective agreement with the Northwest School Division, based in Meadow Lake.

Both the board of education and the local’s bargaining committee signed the deal June 15

The new contract includes a wage increase of 3.75 per cent over three years, improvements to vacation entitlement for caretakers and a number of improvements in language.

“Our members are the backbone of the education system and we are pleased our local was able to reach a deal with Northwest School Division,” said Denis Ouellette, president of CUPE Local 4797.

The local represents 125 members working as caretakers, bus drivers, library technicians, administrative assistants and educational assistants.

Northwest School Division encompasses a large area of the Northwest including schools in Paradise Hill, St. Walburg, Turtleford, Glaslyn, Edam, Maidstone, Hillmond, Neilburg and Lashburn.
