From pins to locomotives to a grain elevator, the WDM’s collections touch on all aspects of life in Saskatchewan. Early collecting at the WDM focused on agricultural settlement. Today, the WDM boasts one of the largest farm machinery collections in Canada. Current collecting has evolved to reflect all Saskatchewan’s people, including Indigenous communities, a greater diversity of migrant groups, and LGBTQ2+ histories.

“We are very excited to share our collections online with the people of Saskatchewan and the world,” said Julie Jackson, WDM collections manager. “Visitors will now be able to access the WDM collections, located in five separate geographic locations in the province, at any time and place as long as they have an internet connection.”

Adding all information from the museum’s collection online is a work in progress. Additional content, features and functionality will continue to be added for better usability. Future virtual exhibitions will also be available through the new database. The public can search the database by visiting https://wdm.ca/collections/

Funding received from the Government of Canada Department of Canadian Heritage's Museums Assistance Program has been a valuable contribution to this project.
