Wilkie Métis Local officially accepted

WILKIE — In May of 2017, a few residents of Wilkie and area started a Métis Local, with the help of Carol Delorme, and Wendy Vandal Bissonnette, who attended and made official the first meeting of the new Métis Local.

WILKIE — In May of 2017, a few residents of Wilkie and area started a Métis Local, with the help of Carol Delorme, and Wendy Vandal Bissonnette, who attended and made official the first meeting of the new Métis Local.

Attendance was great that day bringing in eight members to the newly founded local and appointed were George Pritchard as president, Esther Fell as the vice-president and Helen Urlacher (Locheed) as secretary-treasurer.

The Wilkie Métis Local participated in the Canada 150 celebrations, helping the Wilkie Museum, holding a silent auction, where money raised was donated to the museum.

In the late winter of 2018 the Wilkie Métis Local was approved by the Métis Society of Saskatchewan and deemed an official local.

A regional Métis local meeting was held in Lloydminster, April 29, 2018 where Pritchard was welcomed in by the Métis presidents of the Region.

All Métis in Wilkie are welcome to join the local to help the local become strong and look current members look forward to being involved in the community and with the Métis Nation in Saskatchewan.
