I’d like to take this moment to say that I am truly unhappy with the decision made to knock the old Saskatchewan Hospital down. It was built sometime between 1911-1913 and has been made a place of memories for so many people. My dad has worked there for 39 years and has worked in pretty much every position and place in the hospital. I can’t seem to find very good reasons why it should be knocked down, but I guess it’s because it’s not selling and there’s already a new hospital up and the other one is so old that they’re not sure what to do with it. The thing is I truly feel like they’re moving way too quickly with this decision. That building has all forms of history in it and imagine how many people who are new to the city or even people that live right in North Battleford would come to take a tour of the place. They could have people pay to come in and explore the inside and outside of the buildings and explore the different parts of it. Also imagine the people who spent most of their time there and the people who worked there for many years. That’s another thing that people probably didn’t think a lot about is that the place is so old that it’s a big part of the history in North Battleford. That building is full of experiences and memories and we know it might not seem like a big deal to anyone but when you’ve spent how much of your life in one place it creates such a huge impact and bond that you form with the place. People should start doing less and thinking more before moving on to doing. We’re so quick to jump into things that we don’t really take the time to stop and think “This is history” “Maybe there’s another solution” and “Imagine the people this will impact.”
If this message is out there before they do any kind of damage please give another solution the chance to save not only a building but also history, a home and memories.
