Humboldt Broncos' Barney to make international coaching debut

HUMBOLDT — The head coach of the Humboldt Broncos is one of nine to be selected to coach for Canada at the 2019 World Junior A Challenge.

Scott Barney will serve as an assistant coach for Team Canada West, which will compete at the Encana Events Centre in Dawson Creek, BC from Dec. 7 to 15.

Joe Martin of the BC Hockey League’s Alberni Valley Bulldogs will serve as head coach of the team, while Mike Vandekamp of the BCHL’s Cowichan Capitals will serve as an assistant coach. Clayton Jardine of the Alberta Junior Hockey League’s Camrose Kodiaks will be a video coach, while Allen York of the AJHL’s Camrose Kodiaks will be a goaltending coach.

“The coaches selected to lead Team Canada East and Team Canada West bring a combination of Junior A and international experience as players and coaches, and represent the level of talent in the coaching ranks in junior hockey in Canada,” said Brent Ladds, Canadian Junior Hockey League president.

Barney has played hockey in the United States, Germany, Finland, the Czech Republic, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, China and Korea.
