The Battleford AAA Midget Sharks (7-16-1-1) dropped both games against the Regina Rebels (8-9-3-3) over the weekend, but came close in both.

Saturday, the Sharks came back from being down 3-0 after the first period to force overtime, but eventually dropped a 5-4 decision.

Delaney Frey, Lilla Carpenter-Boesch and Chelsea Perepeluk scored in the first period for the Rebels, despite barely outshooting the Sharks 13-12.

Battleford goalie Chloe Marshall was pulled after giving up three goals on ten shots, and Shelby Tornato took over.

In the second Victoria Henderson single handily got her Sharks back in the game, as she scored a pair of goals 3:22 apart to narrow the gap to 3-2 after two periods.

Keara Amson assisted on both of Henderson's goals.

Just over three minutes into the final frame, Laura Harper scored to tie the game at three, with the assist going to Morgan Fraser.

Barely over a minute later however, the Rebels restored their lead when Frey scored her second of the game, and fourth point, to make it 4-3.

The Sharks resilience came through again, as nearly mid-way through the period Cassidy Fehr tied the game at four with the help of Sharks captain Jetta Derenoski.

Unfortunately for the Sharks, the Rebels scored 57 seconds into overtime, when Perepeluk knotted her second of the game to give Regina the 5-4 win.

Sunday afternoon it was the Sharks who got on the board first when Emily Perehudoff's point shot found it's way through a maze of players and into the back of the net.

Mackenzie Cey and Derenoski got assists on Perehudoff's first career goal.

The Rebels then scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 lead midway through the third period.

Kelsey Davies, Jordyn Miller, Carpenter-Boesch and Frey all scored for the Rebels.

Like Saturday, the Sharks refused to give up, scoring once short-handed and again on a late power-play to cut the lead to 4-3.

Despite good pressure in the final seconds, they were unable to score again, and dropped the 4-3 game.

The Sharks are now off for a week and a half until they travel to Prince Albert to take on the A&W Bears (19-4-3-2.)
