AAA Stars, Sharks both lose; senior season begins

Hockey Scoreboard

The Battlefords AAA Stars hosted the Swift Current Legionnaires in two games this weekend at the Civic Centre.

Unfortunately it did not go as well as hoped as the Stars lost both games by identical 5-0 counts.

The first game on Saturday saw the Legionnaires score twice in the first period, including a power play goal by Christian Albertson after a five-minute major penalty was assessed to Tyson Tuck for head contact.

The Legionnaires scored three more in the third period, including another power play goal, to seal the win. Jacob Herman got the shutout in goal for Swift Current.

It was a similar story Sunday afternoon as the Legionnaires scored three in the first, one in the second and one more in the third to win again over the Stars. Herman once again got the shutout.

The Stars next action is Thursday night in Prince Albert.  They then head to Wilcox to play the Notre Dame Argos and Notre Dame Hounds in weekend action on the road.

Battlefords Sharks

In female AAA action the Battlefords Sharks were in Saskatoon taking on the Saskatoon Stars at the newly opened Merlis Belsher Place. Unfortunately the Sharks lost both games, dropping the first contest 8-0 and then losing the second game 5-3 on Sunday.

Like the Stars, the Sharks are also headed to Wilcox this weekend, playing Notre Dame at Duncan McNeill Arena on Friday at 8 pm and Saturday at 2 p.m.

Senior Leagues

The senior Sask. West Hockey League began their season this past weekend. It started with two games Friday night with the champion Wilkie Outlaws blasting the Luseland Mallards at home 12-4 while the Biggar Nationals went into Unity and beat the Miners 6-3.

Action from Saturday saw the Kindersley  Klippers beat the Nationals in Biggar 4-3, Unity over Macklin 8-3 at home, and Wilkie over the Macklin Mohawks 9-4, also at home.

Action resumes Friday with Kindersley in Luseland while the Saturday games feature Kindersley at Macklin and Unity at Biggar.

Finally the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League begins its season this weekend with two games. The Battleford Beaver Blues host the Edam Three Stars Saturday at 8 p.m. at Battleford Arena. Also that night, the Maymont Settlers host the Spiritwood Timberwolves.
