The Battlefords Barons Atom A developmental team hosted and won the first annual Wade Belak Memorial Tournament last weekend.

The tournament also featured Meadow Lake, Flin Flon and Wilkie and two teams from Saskatoon.

Battlefords and Wilkie were undefeated through the round robin and met in the A final where the Barons prevailed.

Meadow Lake beat Flin Flon in the B final and the Saskatoon Bobcats defeated the Saskatoon Bulldogs in the C final.

Barry Belak, father of Wade Belak, was on hand to present medals and trophies to the participants. The championship trophy will be displayed at the Battleford Arena for the year.

The tournament was named in honour of former NHL defenceman Wade Belak who passed away in the summer of 2011. Born in Saskatoon, Belak played for the Blades of the WHL. He played in 549 games in the NHL for five different teams registering 33 points and 1,263 penalty minutes over his career.
