Crushing the competition

The official unveiling of the new field house, the final component of the CUPlex, was Tuesday, but eight volleyball teams had a sneak peak at the new facility.

The official unveiling of the new field house, the final component of the CUPlex, was Tuesday, but eight volleyball teams had a sneak peak at the new facility.

The Battlefords Volleyball Club hosted a 16 and under girls' tournament featuring the Battlefords Volleyball Club Crush, Hafford Hurricanes, Meadow Fusion, Saskatoon JCVC Big Red, Waldheim Raiders United, Saskatoon Shazaam, Lloydminster and Outer Limits

The first ever event at the field house featured an exciting final, as the Crush beat Shazaam in three sets. After losing the first set 25-21 the host team won 25-14 and 15-13 to capture gold at their home tournament earning candy and t-shirts. In the bronze medal match, Waldheim won in straight sets over JCVC 25-22 and 26-24.

The field house received positive comments from the local parents and the visiting teams, as this facility is expected to open the door for numerous sporting events year round.
