Friedrich ready to tee off at nationals

Battleford’s Colby Friedrich, 16, competed in the Maple Leaf Junior Golf Tour’s PGA of Saskatchewan Junior Championship July 23-24 in a tune-up for teeing off at the Canadian Junior Boys’ Championship in Medicine Hat, Alta. that begins Monday.

Friedrich tied for second in the deep 33-member field in the juvenile category, behind Saskatoon’s Josh Nagy.

Friedrich earned a spot on Team Sask., which is competing at nationals, with a fifth-place finish in the Sask. Junior Men’s Championships earlier in July.

In this week’s tournament Friedrich shot 83 and 72 in the two rounds played for a total 155, tied with Cole Nagy, Josh’s twin brother, who shot 79 and 76. Josh Nagy, 16, fired 76 and 70 for a 146 to earn the Saskatchewan Juvenile Boys Champion’s trophy.
